BIOS
BOHUSLÄN BIG BANG
The local music collective Bohuslän Big Bang is a rare mix of professional musicians, composers and ”sound curious” amateurs connected to the area around Bottnafjorden, Sweden. The collective was initiated by Henrik Olsson during the pandemic in 2021 as a reaction to cancelled concerts and restricted traveling. Bohuslän Big Bang has since worked as a musical research group exploring hands-on concepts and straight forward methods easily accessible to anyone regardless of prior musical knowledge.
The collective have collaborated with the association RANK, the musical platform Reading Music (w. Lisa Ullén, Johan Arrias) and composer Rosali Grankull.
In the Spring of 2022, in connection with the Indonesian percussion ensemble Gamelan Salukat music residency at Gerlesborgsskolan, the collective got access to an entire instrument collection from Bali. Based on a simple musical method for rhythmic interplay, a number of recordings were made and are now planned to be released during HERE:23.
Since BBB no longer have access to the original Indonesian instruments they have built their own junk-version of the percussion instruments - inspired by Bali and made in Bottna - which is now presented for the first time to an audience.
For this very special occasion they have invited the American percussionist Jennifer Torrence to be the artistic director of the performance and guide during the rehearsals as part of her Composer In Residency at Gerlesborgsskolan.
During the concert you will also hear Michael Pisaro-Lius fantastic piece Ricefall for ceramics, plastic, paper, metal, leaves and 20 kg of uncooked rice grains!
Jennifer will initiate the concert by performing a solo piece for snare drum.
